With a healthy injection of cash, Aston Martin is working at a feverish pace to update its lineup. A new crossover has already been confirmed, but the next new model we’re likely to see from the British automaker is the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 – a high-performance grand touring coupe to replace the long-in-the-tooth DB9. Based on our latest batch of spy shots, the car is coming along quite well.

Excluding the doors and the roof panel, this particular DB11 prototype is still heavily cladded to obscure the final styling of the car, but it isn’t wearing the swirly camouflage or the wheel covers that we saw about a month ago. One interesting part of the camouflage is that it has been applied to the outer edges of the roof, from the A-pillar back to the C-pillar, which could suggest that Aston Martin might be looking to do some sort of contrasting aluminum treatment similar to what was shown on the DBX Concept. While we’ll have to wait to see what the DB11 really looks like, the good news is that this now the third time since late March that the DB11 has been spotted testing on the Nürburgring.

All that track time is necessary to get the Mercedes AMG-sourced engines tuned for the ultra-lux brand. In all likelihood, the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 will be available with the Mercedes twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 and the 6.0-liter V-12, which could produce about 550 horsepower and 650 horsepower, respectively. We can’t wait to get video of the DB11 being tested to see what these AMGs sound like in the DB11, but until then, check out the latest spy shots to see how James Bond’s next car is progressing.
