The 2016 Jaguar F-Pace isn’t even out yet, but there is already plenty of talk about other crossovers in the Jaguar lineup. Just recently, a report quoted Jaguar brand director Steven de Ploey as saying that the automaker is “investigating” a smaller crossover, but it doesn’t sound like Jaguar has any plans to move up the CUV ladder.

All but denying reports of a larger, three-row SUV called the J-Pace, Richard Agnew, Jaguar’s global PR director told Motoring that the story was “speculation.” Agnew’s statement backs up that of Jaguar design boss Ian Callum who, at the New York Auto Show, said “categorically, no” when it came to a bigger Jaguar SUV.

Even though such a rumored SUV would have gone up against new vehicles like the Audi Q8, BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS-Class, the majority of growth among crossovers and SUVs is in the compact segment, such as the Porsche Macan and BMW X1. The article says that a sub-F-Pace crossover from Jaguar would require a new platform, and that probably would take until 2020 to complete.

For now, Jaguar is focusing on building a strong core lineup consisting of the redesigned XF sedan and the all-new XE and F-Pace models. Motoring says that the F-Pace will make its big debut on September 4th at a live unveiling at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
